Epiroc’s CorePhoto, is a versatile and precise core photography and 3D laser profiling system that is designed to capture high-precision imaging and core morphology in almost any location.

CorePhoto is a powerful tool that captures precise images of core samples onsite, in almost any location. This innovative and cost-effective product is designed to make geological research easier, faster, and more efficient by providing error- free and consistent results.

Compact and transportable:

CorePhoto is built to travel with its small form factor and sturdy construction, allowing easy transport anywhere – from remote wilderness to challenging terrain.

Enhanced orebody knowledge:

With its high-resolution RGB scanner and built-in laser profiler, the CorePhoto datasets can be imported into automated geotechnical processing software. This adds value by efficiently generating datasets that can be directly imported into structural and geotechnical models.

Exceptional precision:

The system uses advanced laser scanning technology to capture highly detailed images of core samples, allowing for precise identification of zones of interest. With consistent lighting and the absence of unwanted imaging artifacts, CorePhoto stands out as the preferred system for applying AI techniques to these datasets.

Efficient analysis:

The ability to easily access core imagery online reduces the requirements for professionals to travel to, and work in the coreshed. Improving the time efficiency of experts and improving operational costs.

Compliance and record keeping:

CorePhoto is the perfect solution for quickly and easily creating digital twins of all your core samples. You can maintain a permanent and easily accessible record of all your core samples, so you can meet future requirements such as compliance, auditing, and reporting.

As a unique and cost-effective solution, CorePhoto offers mining professionals a way to lower risk, reduce operational expenses and increase productivity.

Epiroc - Picture-1600x68

Geotechnical data is commonly collected manually from drillcore, which can be both time-consuming and subjective and commonly leads to inconsistent datasets. Automating geotechnical data collection provides an opportunity to capture consistent geotechnical data at a scale that is too time-consuming to achieve via manual data collection. This approach allows technical teams to reduce the time required to collect data and instead allows them to focus on interpreting that data.
The Epiroc 3D laser profiling system provides continuous downhole data (even in areas of poor rock quality), therefore, geotechnical data is collected consistently on every meter of drillcore. Even arduous changes, such as the later correction of orientation line locations, can be rolled out across the consistently collected dataset with relative ease. Epiroc's HCI and CorePhoto-3D technology can be used to automatically acquire data used in common geotechnical indices, such as rock quality designation (RQD), rock mass rating (RMR) and tunneling index (Q-Index). The large volumes of consistent geotechnical data produced by Epiroc provide an opportunity to increase the data density and the underlying statistical support for rock mass characterization.

For projects with whole (uncut) drillcore, Epiroc's automated geotechnical data collection algorithms feature:

Improved automated RQD calculations to delineate client-marked mechanical breaks from natural breaks

Delineate competent core from rubbly/fragmented core

Automated fracture detection

Automated fracture orientation*

Automated fracture spacing/fracture frequency

Automated fracture roughness

These automations integrate directly into the Epiroc software and can be interactively viewed and checked on Coreshed by technical teams.
