Epiroc - Pit Viper 276

Designed for a variety of soft rock applications

Epiroc - Pit Viper 276

Proven performance. Ready for what's next.

The Pit Viper 276 brings the proven durability of the Pit Viper series to a wide range of soft rock applications. Configurable to your operation and scalable from onboard automation to autonomous drilling, it delivers safe, consistent performance at a lower total cost of ownership.

Increased hole depth

239 ft (73 m) with a 5-rod carousel

Increased maximum torque

11,280 ft lbs (15,294 Nm)

Leveling capability

Up to 10 degrees for benches that push the limit

Automation at every level

The Pit Viper 276 runs on Epiroc's Rig Control System (RCS) — the platform that brought autonomous drilling from ambition to daily reality. Start with an operator in the cab supported by Autodrill and Autolevel, move to remote operation where one operator runs one or multiple drills, or implement fully autonomous drilling with almost no human interaction with the machine. Every level is built on the same proven foundation, so you can scale at your own pace — without a major rebuild of the machine.

Safety by design

Every feature that removes a person from a hazardous task makes your operation safer. The Pit Viper 276 pairs a FOPS-certified cab and RCS safety interlocks with hands-free capabilities like the Automatic Bit Changer and Live Work Elimination options — reducing manual intervention where risk is highest. And as you move up the automation levels, operators move further from the bench and closer to a controlled environment, keeping people protected while production keeps running.

Productivity that lasts

Fast drilling only pays off if the machine keeps drilling. The Pit Viper 276 combines efficient single-pass and multi-pass performance with Epiroc's patented cable feed system, where automatic cable tensioning reduces component wear and extends the life of the bit and drill string. Add over 100 configuration options to match the rig to your application, and the result is productivity that holds up shift after shift — and a lower total cost of ownership across the life of the machine.

FAQ - Pit Viper 276

What is the difference between the PV-276 and the PV-275?

The Pit Viper 276 builds on the proven PV-275 platform with enhancements that improve productivity, performance, and service life. The most significant difference is the addition of a six-rod carousel, allowing maximum hole depths of up to 239 ft (73 m), compared with five rods on the PV-275. The PV-276 also features increased rotary torque, larger P14 pumps, improved leveling capability, and an expanded dust hood for better cuttings dispersal.

What applications is this model designed for?

The PV-276 is designed for rotary blasthole drilling in soft rock surface mining operations. With a hole diameter range of 9–10 5/8 in (229–270 mm), it is ideal for high-production applications requiring deep-hole capability, reliability, and consistent performance.

Can it be fully autonomous?

Yes. The PV-276 is built on Epiroc's Rig Control System (RCS), providing a scalable path to automation. Operations can begin with onboard automation features such as AutoDrill2 and AutoLevel, progress to remote operation, and ultimately implement autonomous drilling—all at a pace that fits their operational needs.

What safety features are included?

Safety is integrated throughout the PV-276. Standard and optional features include:

  • FOPS-certified operator cab with double safety glass
  • RCS safety interlocks and machine monitoring
  • Automation features that reduce operator exposure to hazardous areas
  • Live Work Elimination solutions that minimize work on energized and pressurized systems
  • Ground-level service access for safer maintenance

How deep can the PV-276 drill?

The PV-276 drills up to 37 ft (11.3 m) in a single pass and 237 ft (72 m) in multiple passes as standard. When equipped with the Automatic Bit Changer, single-pass depth increases to 39 ft (12 m) and maximum hole depth to 239 ft (73 m).
