Epiroc and Hancock Iron Ore reach 200 million tonne milestone in autonomous haulage with LinkOA

Epiroc continues to push the boundaries of open autonomy—driving safer, smarter, and more sustainable mining with LinkOA.
Epiroc and Hancock Iron Ore have reached a major milestone in their autonomous haulage journey: over 200 million tonnes of material have now been moved autonomously at the Roy Hill mine using LinkOA, Epiroc’s OEM-agnostic automation solution. This achievement highlights the power of open autonomy at scale and reflects Epiroc’s long-standing commitment to safe, productive, and sustainable innovation.
The autonomous haulage system (AHS), powered by LinkOA, has been operating continuously at the Roy Hill mine since July 2021. Since then, the fleet has safely traveled more than 5 million kilometers and completed over 846,000 autonomous haul cycles—delivering consistent results that continue to redefine what’s possible in surface mining.

"This milestone is more than just a number—it’s a reflection of the values that drive us: collaboration, commitment, and innovation."

José M. Sánchez , President Surface division
“It shows what’s possible when we work closely with customers like Hancock Iron Ore to implement autonomous solutions that are scalable, interoperable, and focused on real outcomes”, José added.
LinkOA, formerly known as Mobius, began as the flagship product of ASI Mining, a pioneer in autonomous vehicle technology. Epiroc acquired a 34% stake in ASI Mining in 2018 and completed the full acquisition in 2024, bringing Mobius under the Epiroc umbrella and rebranding it as LinkOA. The result is a powerful OEM-agnostic solution that allows mining operations to automate and manage mixed fleets across a single system, giving customers the freedom to choose the equipment that best fits their needs.
The Roy Hill deployment remains one of the largest-scale examples of open autonomy in the mining industry. By implementing LinkOA, Hancock Iron Ore has significantly improved operator safety, increased equipment utilization, and reduced environmental impact through optimized operations.

"Hancock Iron Ore needed an OEM-agnostic autonomous haulage solution. We listened and we built it together. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m extremely proud of what we’ve achieved. This milestone proves that OEM-agnostic AHS is not only possible, but it’s also real and ready for the industry."
